Fox Friday: You Made It, Now Hang It: How to Install your Artwork
You’ve made the thing, but now you have to figure out how to install it. How does it hang on the wall? Or do you want it to hang in space? What does it hang from? And at what height? And once you know the height, how do you do that math? Oh, and what’s a sight line and why does that matter? For this workshop, students are encouraged to bring an artwork (whether finished or in progress) that they would like to learn how to install. We will begin with a presentation and discussion of installation methods for different types of two-dimensional and three-dimensional artworks in a range of traditional and unconventional media. We will have traditional installation hardware on hand for anyone who’s artwork needs it. We will then go through the steps and considerations necessary to install everyone’s artwork in a shared space. Extra artwork will be provided for students who do not bring anything to install. Lastly, we will conclude by deinstalling the artwork and restoring the gallery space.
