Blas Isasi: Artist Talk
Peruvian artist Blas Isasi was the 2024-25 Henry L. and Natalie E. Freund Teaching Fellow at the WashU Sam Fox School. A collaboration between the Sam Fox School and the Saint Louis Art Museum, the fellowship is comprised of teaching a course in the school’s College of Art and producing work for a solo exhibition at the museum.
Hear Isasi discuss his artwork on view in the exhibition Currents 125. Isasi creates sculptures in a wide range of materials and colors informed by ancient Andean cosmology and the landscape of the Peruvian desert. The exhibition focuses on the violent meeting between the Indigenous Andean and the colonizing Europeans in early 16th-century Peru.
