Fox Friday: Energy Spheres Riso
This workshop introduces “Energy Spheres” (radial gradient portraits of people, places, or things) and leads everyone through creating their own energy spheres using a prototype of a new web-based tool, created by Laurel in collaboration with Soft. In doing so, we will attempt to transform the traditional circular image format often used online, such as in phone contacts, profile pictures, avatars, etc., into an experience for a more resonant and poetic experience. At the end, every participant will risograph an energy sphere they created, leaving the workshop with a beautiful artifact.
Instructor: Laurel Schwulst is a designer, writer, and technologist. She teaches design at WashU’s Sam Fox School and also directs Ultralight School. Previously Laurel taught at Yale and Princeton, co-authored a book of fragrance reviews, published a kite tutorial on The New York Times, launched a travel app, and held design roles at Linked by Air, Kickstarter, and Are.na.
