Fox Friday: Clothing Competence — Keep your favorites even if they are tired
This is a hands-on workshop for people with or without sewing skills. Bring clothing you want to change, fix, or otherwise alter and you will transform them to prolong their life in your wardrobe. Visible mending (embroidery) with Sashiko and other stitches, needle felting, hemming, hand and machine sewing, zipper replacement, button replacement and other techniques will be presented. Students will have a set of samples with techniques for mending by hand and machine. They will be encouraged to bring at least one garment and transform it during the workshop. Students will express themselves with through color, texture and technique for both utility and pleasure.
Instructor: Clothing expert, sustainability champion, associate professor of fashion design in the Sam Fox School, Dr. Ruppert-Stroescu takes all aspects of clothing design, use, and care very seriously - while knowing the importance of keeping the joy of self expression through clothes!!
