Fox Friday: Raku Glazing and Firing

During this workshop, attendees will learn about the Raku firing process in ceramics, a rapid-firing technique originating from Japan, characterized by its unpredictable yet beautiful surfaces which include crackled and metallic glazes. Attendees will be able to glaze pre-made bisqueware and help with the firing process.

Instructor: Aida Lizalde is a sculptor and educator. She is entering her second year teaching ceramics at WashU’s Sam Fox School, where she works with students to explore material, process, and contemporary sculptural and functional practices in ceramics. She earned her MFA at Virginia Commonwealth University and undergraduate degree at UC Davis. Christopher Woodward is a multi-disciplinary artist and second year MFA candidate in the Sam Fox School. His work utilizes alternative photography techniques, the camera, and organic sculptural forms. Woodward’s work explores themes of the Anthropocene, queer ecology, death, and mourning.
