Katie Shulman
Fiber artist Katie Shulman will deliver a lecture as a guest of the MFA in Visual Art program. Shulman—along with Jay Buchanan, PhD candidate in the Department of Art History & Archaeology—will also serve as a critic for the MFA in Visual Art Summer Project Exhibition on view at the Des Lee Gallery September 14 - October 13.

About Katie Shulman
Katie Shulman is an artist from Washington, D.C. who currently resides in Detroit, Mich. She holds an MFA in Studio Art from Syracuse University and a BFA from The Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Her work has been shown nationally including at the Everson Museum (Syracuse, Ny.), The Strohl Art Gallery (Chautauqua, Ny.), and I.M Weiss Gallery and Reyes|Finn (Detroit, Mich.).
In addition to her art practice, Shulman has a career as an arts administrator. For more than ten years, she has worked in various institutions of higher learning and nonprofit education spaces like The 92nd Y, The Studio Institute, Hunter College, and Design for America.
She has taught at The 92nd Street Y, Syracuse University, College for Creative Studies, The Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan, and the Penny W. Stamps School, where she currently works in alumni relations.
In 2022, Shulman founded Fiber Club *, a monthly meet-up and community of artists and creative practitioners working in the Detroit metro area. Fiber Club *’s first group exhibition will open at The Convent in September 2023 as part of Detroit Month of Design.
