Augustus' Story

“I’m Augustus Abbey. I’m here at WashU and I’m studying at the dual degree program, Master of Architecture and Master of Construction Management graduating in 2025.

When I was younger I always loved playing with Legos and drawing. We went on a family trip to a Frank Lloyd Wright house. It was around that time that I was like this is kind of what I’m interested in pursuing. I knew that I need to go back to school and if I waited any longer that it would get harder and harder. You don’t even know the impact that you have on different people but that impact to kind of create society as a whole is something that really interests me.

My first summer doing the Alberti program I was the program supervisor and we were helping middle school kids who were interested in architecture learn more about the field. Seeing that was so impactful cuz then it puts you back in your own shoes of how you were trying to discover architecture and it kind of re-energizes you. What surprised me most about this program is just the togetherness that’s created in the studio. We’re willing to push each other and have that kind of healthy competition but always willing to pull each other up. I think is something that was really well cultivated by WashU. I’d say you have to come here and experience, walk around the buildings, get to meet the different faculty. It’s the opportunity to come here and experience the program and get a feel for the school. I think you would honestly really benefit from doing that.”
