Lucas Kamal
Over the last 35 years, Bangkok has only gotten warmer, and escaping the heat has become a luxury.
In the 2025 Global Urban Studio, Lucas Kamal offers the canal as an equitable solution to escaping the heat.
After all, the canal surface temperature is 10 degrees cooler than the ambient temperature. Kamal’s proposal activates the piers as climate refuges, including an outdoor eco-classroom designed for cross-breezes, evaporative cooling, and double-layered roofs that counteract the radiant temperature of metal while blocking both the rising sun in the East and the mid-day sun in the South.
