Wood and metal, thesis project.
“My process of creating involves a labored negotiation with the materials, in which I force them into a certain form and they often resist. This process of exchange allows me to respond to the materials intuitively, while embracing their limitations and my frustration. The resulting sculpture emerges as in-between my intention and the material’s limits. We twist, extend, and accrete in our prolonged dialogue is a project in which I work with wood and metal, turning manufactured materials back toward organic. The undulating form and a sense of fluidity in this sculpture imply a perpetual stage of flux, one that is actively suspended.”
