Catie Cook, MFA '25, awarded a Thesis Research and Production Grant

Catie Cook was awarded a Thesis Production Grant for the work “You Wait Little Girl, On An Empty Stage.”

The work comprises three large-scale oil paintings inspired by imagery from Cook’s childhood in the American South, 1950s Hollywood films, and theatrical conventions of scenic design to explore and confront topics of the male gaze, performativity of gender, and the irreconcilability of the hyperfeminine aesthetic.

Cook is a painter who was raised in North Georgia. Her work primarily takes the form of large scale oil and acrylic paintings. Cook’s work attempts to simultaneously celebrate and critique our understanding of modern day femininity.
