Eva Agüero, “I know more words in Spanish than I do in English”
Eva Agüero, MFA ’25, received an Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award for her work “I know more words in Spanish than I do in English.” The sculpture was exhibited in the MFA in Visual Art 2025 thesis exhibition at the Kemper Art Museum, “Slow Gardens.” The work features video, textile, and ceramic components that together explore the lingering influence of colonial discourse on identity, migration, and cultural perception. Agüero’s faculty sponsor was Amy Hauft, director of the College & Graduate School of Art. The awards were founded more than three decades ago to recognize young sculptors and encourage their continued commitment to the field and recognize the award recipients’ faculty sponsors and their institutions.
