“Apparition,” MFA in Visual Art thesis exhibition, to open May at Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum
2026-03-18 • Sam Fox School
MFA in Visual Art candidates in the Sam Fox School at WashU will present their thesis exhibition, “Apparition,” at the Kemper Art Museum May 1–July 27, 2026.
The exhibition marks the culmination of work for 13 students in the graduating class of 2026. The artwork on display, ranging from painting and photography to sculpture and multimedia installations, reflects the interdisciplinary nature of the MFA program.
Students chose the name, “Apparition,” as a group to reflect a shared moment in their artistic development, as their individual practices and research come together at the height of their graduate careers. The title gestures to the ways images, materials, and concepts take shape through the creative process.
The museum will host a public opening celebration, including gallery talks with the artists, on Friday, May 1, at 5:30 pm. “Apparition” will be open through July 27.
The exhibition is organized by Meredith Malone, curator at the Kemper Art Museum. One of the nation’s leading university art museums, the museum is nationally accredited with an internationally renowned collection.
