Associate Professor Arny Nadler will chair undergraduate studio art at WashU’s Sam Fox School effective July 1, 2026. As chair, he will lead the program’s curriculum development and implementation, operations, exhibitions, and events. He succeeds Meghan Kirkwood, who has been appointed director of the College & Graduate School of Art after serving as chair of undergraduate studio art since 2023.
“We are excited to have Arny back at the helm of studio art, said Amy Hauft, outgoing director of the College & Graduate School of Art. “He has a wonderful way of connecting with both faculty and students. He takes the reins with the program on the ascent, and we anticipate much from his leadership.”
Nadler is an accomplished artist and previously served as chair of undergraduate studio art from 2013 to 2018. He has also served as the school’s area coordinator for sculpture and 3D foundations and worked closely with students on the annual University City Public Art Series, a collaboration between the Sam Fox School and the Municipal Commission on Arts & Letters of University City. He is a recipient of grants and fellowships from the George Sugarman Foundation, the Regional Arts Commission, and the Sam Fox School. Nadler has works in the permanent collection of the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art and is currently included in the 26th San Angelo North American Ceramic Competition at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts. He has had recent solo exhibitions at the Haggerty Gallery of the University of Dallas; Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis; Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois; and Jacksonville University in Florida.
“I look forward to returning to this role as chair of undergraduate studio art,” Nadler said. “Our students and faculty in the studio art program at WashU are working across a wide variety of disciplines and strategies to address important and complex concepts and issues. This is an exciting moment to support and promote all they do in the Sam Fox School.”
Nadler earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from WashU and a Master of Fine Arts from Cranbook Academy of Art. He is represented by Bruno David Gallery in St. Louis, the site of his most recent solo exhibition, “Adaptations.”
