Stas Orlovski named 2026 Prensky Island Press Visiting Artist

Artist Stas Orlovski will make work in Island Press, the Sam Fox School’s research-based printmaking workshop, this fall as the Arthur L. and Sheila Prensky Island Press Visiting Artist. The work includes etching, collagraph, chine collé, and collage, taking cues from Orlovski’s prolific drawing practice while considering movement as it relates to his animations.

Orlovski will also give a lecture Oct. 12 at 4:30 p.m. in Steinberg Auditorium, as part of the school’s Public Lecture Series.

Stas Orlovski is a Los Angeles-based artist whose work includes drawing, painting, sculpture, and animation. Born in the former Soviet Republic of Moldova, his family fled to Tel Aviv, then Paris, to eventually settle in Toronto. Orlovski earned a BFA from York University, a B.Ed from the University of Toronto and an MFA from the University of Southern California. He has exhibited widely including at the 56th Venice Biennale. Orlovski’s work is represented in private and public collections including LACMA, the Crocker Art Museum, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, Houston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Progressive Corporation. Awards, fellowships, and residencies include Skowhegan, Yaddo, Art Omi, COLA Individual Artist Fellowship, California Community Foundation Getty Fellowship, Center for Cultural Innovation Grant, and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant.

In 2008, Dr. Arthur L. Prensky established The Arthur and Sheila Prensky Visiting Artist Endowment Fund to bring distinguished artists to the Sam Fox School for artist residencies at Island Press. Visiting artists work closely with faculty, graduate students, and advanced undergraduate students through a variety of programs and interactions to create innovative prints that garner a critical response from national and international audiences.
