Fox Fridays: Collage & Printmaking for Illustrators - Part 1

Printmaking is an excellent tool for illustrators to experiment translating their drawings into an analog medium. This workshop (Part 1 of 2) will teach simple printmaking techniques. Participants will become familiarized with printmaking tools and techniques and make multiple prints to use in part two of the workshopsUsing various techniques, this workshop is meant to be fast moving, fun, and experimental. Perfectionists need not apply.

Instructors: Jillian Ohl is from Winston Salem, NC, and graduated from NC State University with a bachelor’s degree in art + design in 2014. Before moving to pursue her MFA in St. Louis, she worked in Raleigh, NC, in art galleries and an architecture firm, gaining a wide range of visual art and design experience. Pulling inspiration from fashion, humor, popular culture, nature, and places, her artwork and illustrations are created using watercolor, ink, collage, and graphite. When she’s not drawing, she enjoys other hobbies including watching Ken Burns’ documentaries, listening to sad indie music, drinking black coffee, and hanging out with her little fluffy dog. Jillian is a second-year MFA in Illustration & Visual Culture student in the Sam Fox School. Amelia Jones is the School’s instructional technician for the Printmaking department and the Book Studio. She is also the studio administrator for Island Press, the School’s research-based printmaking workshop. A graduate of the Sam Fox School’s MFA in Visual Art program, Amelia is an artist, educator, and independent curator based in St. Louis.
