Collection Statement
L’Dor VaDor is an homage to my Jewish identity and history. From the beginnings of time, people have labeled Jews with anti-Semitic tropes and negative stereotypes that have led to minor and major aggressions. As a result, Jewish people have been forced to assimilate and play down their identities. However, I wanted to reclaim our narrative and present a collection from a distinctly Jewish perspective, one that is often lacked in the fashion industry. I am proud to be Jewish and have used this process to further embrace my culture. I am focusing heavily on material manipulations that showcase my Jewish roots, such as an original Hebrew print, hand tied tallis strings, and laser cut acrylic in a deconstructed Star of David shape with my print engraved. While Jewish people were originally forced to wear Stars of David in the Holocaust to identify themselves and visible tallis strings can lead to harassment, I am reclaiming these traditional symbols boldly throughout my collection. My collection is for women who courageously embrace their identities, and wholly support other identities as well. They are passionate about using clothing as a vehicle for self-expression. L’Dor VaDor uplifts Jewish voices that have traditionally been silenced and hopes to inspire other people to fearlessly accept their identities as well.
