LAND 402: Landscape Architecture Design Studio II
The LAND 402 studio in the spring 2022 semester worked on unpacking the claim that “landscape architecture has a labor acknowledgement problem,” (Terremoto, 2021). In reality, landscape architecture requires collective work with a variety of disciplines — researchers, builders, growers, maintenance workers, and more. Students in this course mapped WashU’s East End, studying sites and making iterative designs in plan, section, and 3D if/then drawings. The studio asked students to acknowledge human labor, experiment with methods learned from non-designer-experts, and find ways for all workers to have delightful forms of respite.
